Manarola
|
Manarola is a hamlet of the town of Riomaggiore, squeezed between the Ligurian Sea and the steep mountains of the Appennines, situated on a precipitous cape.
The colourful houses on the main street, built by covering a river, create a mosaic; the town is an interlacement of narrow roads, and is considered one of the most beautiful villages of Italy.
In the higher part of the town there is the main Piazza, in which there are the religious buildings: the Oratorio dei Disciplinati, the bell Tower and the parish church of San Lorenzo, realized in Gothic style and dated to 1338.
On the heights that encircle the town, there are the typical terraces, with the vines and the typical walls; here you will find evocative paths and panoramic points of extraordinary beauty; among them, the most famous path is the Via dell'Amore (Love's Path), that connects Manarola to Riomaggiore. The path, dug in the cliff between 1926 and 1928, goes along the coast.
